Research Programs and Themes

TIAR's research, development and extension programs are industry focussed and designed to address agricultural productivity and efficiency, safe food production, and social and natural resource management issues facing rural communities.

TIAR currently has established research activities in the following programs and themes:

Centres (industry aligned research)

Themes (research transecting industries)

What is RD&E?

R: Research is a planned activity aimed at discovering new knowledge in a defined field of enquiry.

D: Development is the application of research and knowledge from a range of sources, the testing, adaptation and ‘proof of concept’ of which allows the achievement of improved outcomes. Development also has a significant facilitatory component to encourage industry growth, profitability and sustainability through collaboration involving industry knowledge, industry and market intelligence, industry networks and contacts.

E: Extension is communication and learning activities organised for rural people to improve the efficiency of agriculture, as well as to improve the living, social and educational standards of rural communities.

TIAR is continuing to develop its research activity, both in existing areas of excellence and strength, and in areas of industry need.
